Family Promise Metrowest Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers provide the backbone of our shelter program.  Your donations of meals, hosts, and room organization are fundamental to our success as a temporary “home” for our guest families.  There are also myriad activities that take place in the “in between time” of hosting which are equally important to our ability to successfully serve the families of our program.  We need your talent here as well!

Family Promise Board of Directors

Currently chaired by Dover Church member, Mike Donoghue, the Board is responsible for governance and particularly the financial well being of our organization.  The Board, now numbering 10 members, meets monthly and welcomes individuals passionate about our mission .  We have a particular need for individuals with experience in grant writing, public relations and fundraising.

Family Promise Board Committees

  • ·         Program Committee:
  • ·         Finance and Resource Development Committee:  Develop annual fund raising goals; develop annual operating budget
  • ·         Congregation and Volunteer Relations Committee:
  • ·         Leadership Development Committee: Implement a process for recruitment of qualified volunteers to Board Committees and to nominate candidates for Board membership

Fundraising Events

Family Promise Metrowest’s fundraising events are essential to our comprehensive fundraising plan.

Join an existing committee:

  • ·         Annual Walkaway Homelessness Event  - Saturday, April 12 in Natick Center
  • ·         Our new "Tee Off to End Homelessness", Indoor Mini Golf Event, November
  • ·         Become a “365” Club Member:  donate $1 a day to help end family homelessness

Consider a fundraiser in your own congregation, club or neighborhood.

Family Promise Day Center, Natick

The Day Center is our families’ home base.  It is where they “live” when they are not at work or at school and on the weekends.  It is where they shower, do laundry, conduct job and housing searches, and just relax.

1. Assist in the office: Volunteers are needed to staff the office on the weekends. The shifts are 9:30am to 12:30pm and 12:30pm to 3:00pm. The volunteer shift may require answering the phone, stuffing envelopes for a mailing, playing a game with a guest child or simply being a presence. We do encourage volunteers to bring a book, knitting or other activity in case we do not have any clerical work to be done.

2. Hold a drive: The day center requires supplies such as; laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, paper towels, toilet paper, plastic utensils, and cleaning supplies. Businesses and groups can run drives to collect these needed items.

3.  Offer professional assistance: A variety of professional services are needed to better assist our guests. These include but are not limited to assistance with or training in: budgeting/money management, employment readiness skills, job training, parenting skills, resume writing, haircuts, dental/medical care, ESL tutoring and GED tutoring.
