Rotation Schedule Aug 30, 2009 to March 21, 2010This is the Procedures and Policies page.

CORI Checks for Host Congregations

The Family Promise Metrowest Board has decided to leave the CORI check policy to the discretion or practice of each host congregation.  Host Congregations must be prepared to have two adult individuals (responsible parties) available with families at all times (when a Host Congregation receives its individual training this item will be covered).  Church members who drop off meals and supplies or plan to help children with homework, offer recreational activities, etc count as additional adults to the two responsible parties.  Congregations are urged to review their own internal policies regarding the way they manage their Sunday school programs and youth programs with regard to CORI checks.  Some may have adopted 'safe church' programs and practices; others will have policies for CORI checks for any member working with youth or vulnerable adults; others do not.

If a Host Congregation choses to implement a CORI check policy for its own outreach programs, they will need to appoint a member to coordinate the process and request/receive confidential CORI information.  Such a policy should not be adopted by congregations lightly, because aside from gaining access to confidential information, it obligates congregations to follow through on their own policy and take appropriate action if necessary, which may not always be easy or pleasant to do. Please not that CORI checks are an imperfect system, in that only those with criminal records will show up.  A perpetrator who has never been caught would have no CORI record.
